This is the latest (and probably the last) snapshot of modern.IE virtual machines before they are removed from the internet. The statement on the website's snapshot (Virtual Machines - Microsoft Edge Developer) states that the virtual machines will be no longer offered this January 2023, which coincides with Windows 7's Extended Security Update (ESU) and Windows 8.1's end-of-life date. About the suite

The modern.IE Test Environments consist of a set of preconfigured test Windows virtual machines specifically designed for testing Internet Explorer (or a legacy version of Microsoft Edge) browsers. It consists of software designed to be evaluated by software developers and testers. The images are available for use for 90 days, after which some functionality is restricted (applicable only to Windows 7).

Provided are the VM images that includes these combinations of the Windows operating system and Internet Explorer/Microsoft Edge Legacy browser:

IE 8—Windows 7 (x86)
IE 9—Windows 7 (x86)
IE 10—Windows 7 (x86)
IE 11—Windows 7 (x86)
IE 11—Windows 8.1 (x86)
Microsoft Edge—Windows 10 (x64) Stable (version 1809)

It was made for the following virtual machines:

VirtualBox
Vagrant
VMWare (both Workstation and Player) (Windows, Mac)
Hyper-V (Windows)
Parallels (Mac)

Content notes

As per Microsoft's instructions, “We recommend setting a snapshot when you first install a virtual machine which you can roll back later.” The password to the VM's user (IEUser) is “Passw0rd!”. For more information and instructions on how to install it, please consult the PDF file included in the archive.

Note: It is recommended that you have sufficient space on your destination drive to accommodate these VM images, which are typically several gigabytes in size.

The download of the archive are not necessarily directly from MS, but assembled from batch downloads, and they are not modified from the downloading process. There is also a hash file for the accompanying ZIP archives if you want to validate the origin of it (which is me).

Unfortunately, due to the intense labor it takes to test the VMs, I cannot test a complete suite of it as of the time of publishing this. If you have any issues with this snapshot, please let me know by sending a review to the archive below.
